So, I'm pondering to get a kitten or an adult dog. and if a dog what kind?
I have a small son, and 2 small dogs in the house who aren't mine, any thoughts?

That purely depends. if you want a pet dog, I recommend pamironian. I dono whether I've spelled it right or wrong. but they pronounce it as pamironian. Or, if you want a good eating fluffy wuffy dog, you can go for labs.

I personally like german shepherds.

well it also depends on if the other dogs will tolerate another animal. i have a cat now and love her but usually cats and dogs don't mix too well if it's a kitten or the like

Do you still have a guide dog? Maybe another small dog? If you have an iPhone there's some apps that tell you about all the different breeds of dogs. One is called Perfect Dog and the other is called Dog-A-Log. There's also one for cats called Cat-A-Log.

I have a cat, before getting her I was not a cat person at all. from my perspective cats are easier to care for, do not require attention 24 hours a day. The last thing I said was exadurated but you get the point. if you give a cat a bunch of cat toys they will love you for it.

Actually Dinesh I think the name you want is Pomeranian. Smile. They're something of a mixed bag though. Physically they're the right size if you wanted, say a lap dog. And as an added bonus their fur is incredibly soft. Unfortunately they have the potential to be extremely yappy. I tend to agree with Starfly. Generally speaking cats are easy to care for since you don't have to let them out to use the bathroom and they don't require attention 24/7 they way dogs often do. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but I'm definitely more of a cat person. But if getting a dog you definitely want to make sure he/she has the right temperament for small children. You also might want to avoid getting a bigger dog since even a mellow dog can easily knock a kid over just by bumping into them.

Um, let's see, you have 2 children, a guide dog, and 2 other dogs already? Um, so, why do yu want another pet? Why not just give more attention to the ones that are already there? Sorry but, i have seen way to many folks with packs of dogs yapping and crapping away. And the vet bills, and heartworm and flea meds will eat into your budget. Just my opinion.

A good point. Smile.

do not get a pomeranian if you have a small child. Personal experience! they're lovely to their owners jessica, but mean as hell to strangers. I think the hyper energy of kids tends to freak little dogs out.

Cats require less work, are more calm, and if you get a nice one, they can be social for kids, depending on the child and the cat, of course. But I'm bias. I love cats.

Yeah. Me too. I'll probably always have a cat around. My kids, if I ever have any, will just have to learn that cats can hurt you if you're not nice to them.

first of all I have 1 child, no guide dog, and the other 2 dogs in the house aren't mine.
I'm considering a cat, though I'm not sure what kidn to get, and or a medium sized dog though I'm not sure what kind either.

Probably the only reason I don't yet have a guide dog is because I know I probably couldn't afford to care for one financially. Yeah I'm nervous about how my cat would react to one since he's proven tat he doesn't generally care for dogs. Then again a guide dog might be easier for im to deal with since they're less likely to chase after him when he goes into one of his caffeine modes. My parents have three dogs who, when Max and I go over to vist (not a very frequent occurrence), tend not to want to leave him alone.

I would never get a small, or tiny breed of dog, far too nervous and they tend to be aggressive. I think with two pups in the house a cat might be a bad idea.

A couple of things to think about getting a dog for the house.

1) Are the current dogs hyper, Relaxed, aggressive, dominate or submissive?

2) How do you plan to introduce the current dogs to their new house mate?

3) How are you going to go about problems such as dominating behaviors?

4) The all important. What will you do when, not if, a fight between the dogs break out?

I tend to agree about small dogs. My folks have two of them. Granted they're not too bad. I wish I could say the same about my neighbor's dog. I don't know if it's a pet of the same woman who was banging on my door last year. All I know is that not a day goes by that I don't hear the darn ting yapping for at least a couple hours.
